PE Days
Wednesday and Friday
Please ensure that your child comes in appropriate clothing on these days including suitable footwear e.g. trainers.
Change of reading books/ library visit
Your child will bring home a reading folder with a reading record inside. On a Monday and Thursday they will change both their library book and their phase reading book.
Home Learning
Your child will be given phonics sounds to practise once these have have been taught in class. These will go home on Friday.
Occasionally, we will ask for some Home Learning activities to be completed linked to our Learning Journey. These will be optional and a way of celebrating what the children have learnt / what they already know.
Enrichment
Children in Y1 enjoy seasonal walks exploring the local area – these happen each term.
On a half termly basis your child will take part in an outdoor learning day. These days equip them with a variety of skills from tying knots, to fire making and using tools. Along side this, core values such as resilience, independence and teamwork are practiced.
We embed our All About Me learning journey in Autumn 1 with a visit to Weston Park Museum. This visit allows them to further delve into the history of Toys. The children enjoy playing with toys of the past and becoming a ‘curator’ and making their own toy!
We also organize visits to our local Synagogue to support our RE learning – the children enjoy a tour and talk by a Rabbi.
We regularly invite parent visitors into school to share a story, expertise or celebrate the children’s learning.
There are also multiple opportunities for children to partake in school sport during Y1. In recent years these have included hockey and mini-Olympics.
Parent Hub
On a weekly basis you will receive a Parent Hub notification which provides you with a snap shot of learning from our week in Y1!
